I think I might be having tension issues - I was holding the crochet hook so tightly that my thumb lost all sensation for a few hours. Plus the fabric is alot more curved than it's supposed to be I think, from my tension being too tight.
Despite all that -- Do you know what this means?!?!??!?!
It's just about done. I haven't finished the neck yet, or kitchener stitched the underarms or woven in the ends, but it's done enough for me to know it's too short. I would love it if it were about 4 inches longer. I'm going to search through my yarn to see if I've got more. I could have sworn that I bought extra. The sweater fits and looks nice, I just wish it were a little longer. long. I might just set this sweater aside for awhile and think about what to do. I might just finish it up and decide I like it even though it's kinda short. I don't know.
I bought Erika Knight's book Simple Crochet last night and I'm dying to make the turkish slippers. I have to teach myself how to crochet first. It seems pretty simple so I'm sure I'll have it figured out in no time.
My yarn store adventure in nyc is being postponed til next weekend for a few different reasons. 1. I stayed up late to watch Inside 9/11 on the National Geographic channel and work on my hourglass sweater. It's almost done but I am afraid it might be shorter than I'd like. I can either knit it as is and hope for the best or I can rip back and knit the torso a few inches longer. I'm not sure if I'll have enough yarn for that though. oh yea - other reasons for not going today - i woke up really late with a stomach ache and jon looked like he was having fun playing video games so I just let it go.
we might go out later and get something to eat. I'm in the mood for Italian. I might stop at the store and Jon's parents garden later for ingredients for some delicious chili that I'll make late tonight (to eat throughout the week) if I feel like it.
My sweeter than sweet husband is taking me to the city tomorrow to go to a few yarn stores. On the itinerary are: School Products, Downtown Yarns, Purl Soho, and The Point. Maybe after that we'll go to museum and/or have some dinner. I don't know yet.
Today Devan went to her great grandmother & Aunt Dee's house and made cakes! We brought 2 home. yum. I'm gonna go have some :)
Ok I know I can be a little coooooky. This has been established. But tonight on my way home I was unapologetically rocking out to Bad Company's ' Feel Like Makin' Love' and I started thinking-- not about this:
Jon's gonna kill me for posting this extremely unflattering photo of him eating a chicken wing.
but about this:
it's no coincidence that all of these yarns are shades of pink.
Yesterday I went exploring! I found a new yarn shop in Denville. It's called Nonna's Yarn Cafe. The ladies in there are really nice and sweet and I enjoyed talking to them. I wasn't hungry for any of their pastries though, because I'd just eaten.
I also finally found the Yarn Loft in Sparta. Duh. I can't believe that for the last 2 years I've been missing it. I bought cherry tree Hill sock yarn and some Rowan Big Wool (50%off yay!) there. The lady in charge there is nice. I enjoyed eavesdropping on her conversation with a couple older ladies.
I also bought yarn to make the cropped green cabled cardigan in the newest issue of Vogue Knitting. I'm too lazy to look for a picture right now, and besides I'm going to lengthen it so it won't look like the picture anyways.
and now I'm off to bed. I've been making an effort to change my sleep schedule so that I wake up earlier and go to bed very soon after getting home from work. So far it's going pretty well.
Really. He did. He got rear ended this morning at 5:30. What a nice birthday present, right? Here's a pic:
This may beat the birthday present Jon's mom gave me for my 22nd birthday: STREP THROAT! :-)
He seriously has the best attitude ever. I asked him if he was upset about the accident and he was like, "a little excitement never hurt anyone."
Ok. On to more pleasant topics:
Remember how I made that very solemn vow not to start any new knitting projects until I finish up the ones I have lying around? Well, I am sticking to it and I swear I see light at the end of this tunnel. I even took pictures because I know
you all love pictures!
Ok so I finished a pair of socks while I was at the shore.
mr. incredible likes!
I've also been working on the Hourglass Sweater. Well.
Since last night anyway. It was tucked away in a bin full of sock yarn for some
reason, and I'd forgotten about it, so I finished up the last 2 inches of sleeve
1 and connected it to the body:
oh Noro Cash Iroha - How do I love thee?
And then I started on sleeve number 2:
Lovely stitch marker, courtesy of Jen
As you can see, I'm sewing the seams as I knit - for 2 reasons. 1 - I am very, very lazy. I know if I didn't do it right at the beginning, I'd never finish the sweater. The only 'real' seaming this pattern requires is that the under arms need to be kitchener stitched together. 2- I think it looks hot, and I enjoy
doing it that way.
I think that's enough pictures and knit-talk for one day. I better go lay down before the birthday boy scolds me for being up so late again!
I love amazon japan. Today I bought a few bag making books. I'm really excited about them:
ISBN4529040011
IBSN4569635539
ISBN4579108213
I bid on a couple vintage cameras on ebay but I woke up from my nap to find that I'd been outbid on both. No big loss, we're talking OLD and very inexpensive cameras here. Maybe I'll try again some other time.
I want this house bad. real bad. I love older homes and I want one of my own:(
I'm tired. Just sitting here, trying to unwind after tonight's drama. We had a power outage at work and we also had some technical difficulties printing out pages at the end of the night. I had a ton of fun running up and down the stairs trying to make everything work.(that's sarcasm)
well I'm gonna finish drinking my lemonade and contemplate buying a couple cameras - nothing fancy, an Holga colorsplash, a pinhole camera, and maybe some other little novelty thing to take arty farty pics with. I'm borrowing Jon's dad's minolta 7s that he got in Tokyo like 30 yrs ago - i'm gonna take it for a spin and see what it can do. If results are good, I'll be hitting up ebay for my own, since they're only like 10-20 dollars on there.
It feels like Monday for 2 reasons. 1. I worked last night. 2. Jon's not here.
Jon's at the Warped Tour today. I did not go with him because I have to work tonight and because maybe 2 of the bands interest me. I went to the warped tour twice - before it sucked. I went in 97 with this guy Dan who was more interested in um, other things, and wasn't really interested in the bands. We saw some great bands that year. I went the next year with Jon, who I had finally convinced to bleach his hair (it was a bad idea) and we saw Bouncing Souls and 7seconds which ruled. I made Jon leave before Blink 182 played because I hate them. (you know, because I'm too cool for school) I couldn't believe the line up this year. Suck city. poor jonny:(
I'm gonna take Devan to lunch over at the Sussex Queen (thee best Diner in all of Sussex County. I'd go so far as to say it's the best Diner in NJ except that the Tick Tock is pretty great, even if it's tainted because I went there in March or April with a complete douchebag(-). but I think they serve coctails. (+)so it wins.)
Guys I'm homesick. I want to go home and sit at Country Kitchen for hours and hours and catch up on all of the local gossip - you know, like who's preggers, who's a drug addict, who's in prison, who's dead. that kind of positive stuff!
ok I'm gonna stop typing now because if I don't, I'll never get to the diner in time to eat before work!
First things first - The House of Yarn in Manasquan... stinks.
I mean, it's cute and quaint and run by a nice older woman. And if you're looking for Patons and Sirdar yarns and patterns, it's your cup of tea. If you're like me and you're looking to buy some beautiful expensive yarn, well don't bother going there.
Tomorrow I plan to go over to Belmar and check out Needles n' things. Hopefully they've got a better selection.
We had fun at the beach yesterday after Jon got here. We went down to the water and then as soon as I started taking my shorts off, there was thunder in the distance and the lifeguards made everyone leave. So we all went up the beach a little and played frisbee. We ended up going back down to the water a little while later and swimming a little. Jon and his brother & his brother's friend caught a big crab. We watched it walk sideways. This is boring right? Today it's storming so we probably won't do much of anything. Later dudes! Oh yea, I'm on Jon's computer and he somehow found wireless internet somewhere in this neighborhood so that's how I'm able to post. ok bye:0)
I decided I'd leave for the shore this morning instead of yesterday morning. I needed a day to unwind and relax after the terrible week I had at work. I won't even get into it, too negative for such a lovely day.
check out the dancing baby ---->
Ugh. I'm just sittin here waiting for Jon to come back home with my big duffle bag so I can scram.
I'm almost done with my 'think pink knit-along' project. Just gotta knit the ears and the snout and then I'll sew it together, stuff it and be finished. it's going to be cute.
I'm only taking socks with me to the beach (I mean to knit, not to wear)I've got 3 different pairs started and I'll hopefully finish them all. I'm going now because this post is supremely boring.
basically that's all I want to do. I'm not going to sit here and type for very long because I'll inevitably start complaining about stupid things. Here's the reality: Life is good, my job is not difficult, vacation is a mere day away.
Here's what I'm gonna do on vacation: Build sandcastles with Devan, Collect shells along the beach, read a novel on the beach, do some knitting, Check out the Yarn House *a yarn store in manasquan*, watch at least 1 sunrise, watch boats at the inlet, swim a little, and play board games. My very most favorite thing to do while on vacation is to walk with Jon down to the water's edge at night, sit down in the sand, and listen to the ocean.
This cd swap thang is shapin' up to be pretty cool. Thx Jen for making me join:-) I've gotten 2 cd's so far, both look really cool, both sound really cool, 1 got kinda jammed in my car's cd player (but I got it out, phew!) and over all I'm really excited because mail keeps coming and it's for me!
I also got around to shrinking down my cover art so I can show all you weirdo stalkers what I made for my swap partners.
No, dudes. I'm not making it any bigger. I don't want to spoil the surprise for those of you who are receiving my package this week. Oh. By the way. The store didn't have any of those super cheap packages, so I had to buy those ones at the post office and it was kind of expensive. The guy there was hot though and he had tattoos all over his legs and a hairy chest and stuff so I guess it was worth the money. JUST KIDDING JON (If you're reading this)
I hope he's not reading this cuz right now I'm gonna tell you about how hot he is. Ok Jon has always been really cute and his butt and legs are totally hot because he runs every day. Anyways, I just wanted to mention that because I tend to go on and on about these hot tattoo'd dudes and Jon's just a natural hotsy totsy.. in fact I think if Jon had sleeve tattoos and tattoos on his legs and back, i think I'd die of hot overload. that's how hot he is. Ok?
I don't really have anything else to talk about except that my job is making me really bummed out and I made a list of stuff that upsets me and stuff that I like about my job and the stuff that bothers me totally beats the stuff that doesn't. It's a real bummer and it's like they've pushed me into a corner by taking advantage of the fact that I have good uhmm work ethic and mad skills and that I'm a fast learner and that I don't complain (at least while anyone else is around) but I'm not sure what to do. I guess I'll mull it over while I'm on vacation next week at the beach. oh are you jealous? you should be. I'm totally excited.
(Nov 19)
I've been asked to make a Christmas wish list, so here it is. Click on
Santa to view it!
(Dec 11)
I am unable to sleep, so I took time to make the blog archives work. of course, images that were on old yahoo server do not work anymore (read: anything before April 2005) so you'll have to use your imagination. Check the sidebar for a link if you're interested.

(Nov 22)
There. I finally did it. Now go buy me stuff:)
.......................
(Nov 7)Take note of the changes along the right sidebar. I've been reading blogs, and that, of course, means joining knitalongs!
However my next task (which will be my next announcement)
is to create a holiday wishlist, as there have been several people asking for one.

(Aug 6) Hi guys, How cute is this: I have a new little niece!! Bryan and Mandie's little girl was born last Sunday (I think)
and in the spirit of utter ridiculousness, I give you, Madelyn dancing.

(June

(May
23) Sup dudes? I was kinda bored last night, so I made a picture.
again. only tell me if you like it. I have a fragile ego.

(May
14) Going through a wave of depression. Don't feel like
doing anything except artwork. Here are a couple
pictures I made. You may have seen them, since they're
meant for my websites. If you've seen them as background
images, excuse the tiling, I'm fixing it when I feel
like it.
if you like them, let me know. if you don't, keep it to
yourself.

(April 28) Ok... I've been on hiatus. Bear with me and
my broken links and pictures while I move all my junk
around.
Life is good and I'm glad my site is working again.
.......................
(Jan 11) Due to real life
pals/family complaining about how little real life
content there is in this journal, I'm going to make a
real effort to include that stuff, and not just knitting
stuff. I hope this pleases you guys.

(Jan 10) Today is the
anniversary of my Grampa's death. We still miss you so
much.
.......................
(Jan 4) Congratulations
Michael & Tiffany!!
Welcome to the family,
Tif!

(Dec 30) Just two quick
notes today:
1. We've got another
completed Casey's Coat.
2. I'll be out of town
for about 3 weeks. My brother, Mike, is getting married!
After that I'm going to be house sitting for my mom
while she is out of town. This will not have an affect
on you or my blogging, I just felt like sharing.
.......................
(Dec 2) My brother has
been making me some pretty cool knitting charts. I think
they're mighty awesome and I'm trying to figure out a
project I can use them for. They're pdf files, except
the first one (which is actually not his design, it's
the work of someone on myspace.com) so go ahead and have
at them. If he makes many more charts, I'll disable the
links and offer the chart patterns for a small fee via
paypal, because, after all, it is his art work and he
deserves compensation!

(Nov 28)My little sister is a knittin' fool. We shopped
all over for some good needles for her. She's been using
these kids plastic-y needles that I find to be really
uncomfortable and annoying. We tried some aluminum
needles but they were too slick and long. We finally
settled on some Clover Bamboo needles and from what I
have heard, she likes them the best. She's working on a
lavender scarf. I'll have my mom take a pic so I can
post it here.

(Nov 28) I'm back! Christmas Knitting and yarn stash
enhancement is in full effect in this house. There's a
new(?) Knitting/Fabric store in the town my mom lives
in. It's called Sew Krazy. image is property of sew-krazy.com
They are currently squeezed in a tiny location just
chock full of amazing stuff! They have a whole shelf of
Kaffe Fasset fabrics, which you know I loved. They
had lots of yarn by Rowan and Brown Sheep. They didn't
have any Debbie Bliss. The shop is working on expanding
in a new location, equipped with a beautiful fireplace
(My mom and I peeked through a hole in the door) and
it's HUGE. This place was great and there's a cafe
called Muddy Waters next door. So this place will be
perfect to sit down, relax, drink coffee, and knit by
the fireplace when I go out to visit for 3 weeks in
January. The building is also really beautiful and
contains many other interesting shops. Check it out if
you're ever nearby.

(Nov 18)Last year for Christmas, Mr. Handsome gave me an
EZ Stir. If you haven't got a clue what an easy-stir
is, (consider yourself lucky) it's a device that
attaches to your pots and pans and stirs your sauces for
you! Ingenious! I have still not taken the EZ Stir out
of its package. This year, I thought I'd make it easy on
my husband and anyone else who wishes to shower me with
gifts.
